Deer Town
As glamourous as the big cities of Japan are, I would have to say that my favourite stop was the town of Nara. The town is home to temples and pagodas but is probably most famous for its deer. The deer are considered heavenly or sacred and are free to roam around the city walking up to tourists who have recently acquired crackers from the street vendors.
There are numerous signs around the town warning of how aggressive the deer can be. They can tug-a-war with the best of them, bite and butt into you to get their way. I was lucky that one deer was only overly affectionate and continued to nuzzle my leg for more crackers.
