Manga Museums pt. 2
In Kyoto, I went to the International Manga Museum. Admission is once again purchased through a vending machine at the door.
A former school, the museum houses hundreds if not thousands of manga that you can borrow and read anywhere on the grounds. It has displays showcasing the history of manga around the world in Japanese and English and I especially love how all forms of cartoon drawings are called manga.
It truly is a better word than comics or cartoons. A cartoonist can be an animator and a comic can be a comedian – whereas manga is definitely manga.
I had the strangest out-of-body experience of sitting down and drawing a new manga character. Too many places to visit and things too see, rarely do I ever get to sit down in peace and draw when I’m on vacation. I was happy I got to visit.
